1. Where is the school located?
The campus is located in the city of Higashi Kurume, about one hour by train from the downtown Tokyo area.

2. What percentage of the student body is made up of missionary kids?
Approximately 40% of the student body is made up of the children of missionaries representing over 25 mission groups. The remainder consists of a diverse combination of dependents of business and professional people.

3. Are all of the students Americans? Presently, the student population is 29% North American, 33% Japanese, 21% Korean, and the rest are from over 20 countries.

4. What percentage of high school graduates go on to college or university?
More than 90% of CAJ graduates go on to post-secondary institutions in the United States or their home country.

5. Is Christian Academy in Japan an accredited school?
CAJ has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 1976.

6. How many students are enrolled in Christian Academy in Japan? The enrollment is over 450 students in grades K-12.

7. What facilities does CAJ have? There is a 25,000 volume library, a 370-seat auditorium, two computer labs, a 450-seat gymnasium, and an athletic field, all on a four-acre campus. A three-story classroom building was completed in the spring of 1997.

8. What about sports?
CAJ participates in an interscholastic league of international schools and military dependent schools in the Kanto Plain area. CAJ fields teams in cross-country, tennis, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, soccer, track and field, and field hockey. Other teams may compete on a club basis.

9. Is a hot lunch available during the school day?
Yes, our dining hall prepares a hot lunch every full day of school. The a la carte menu is a mix of dishes from various cultures--Japanese, North American, Chinese, and others. A salad bar is always available, as are beverages and desserts.

10. What fine arts activities does the school have?
There is a full spectrum of instruction in the visual arts as well as choral and instrumental music for students in K-12. Individual instruction is available for both vocal and instrumental music. There are several dramatic productions throughout the year.

11. Are AP courses offered?
We offer AP classes in English, social studies, math, science, and language.

12. Who operates the school? The school is owned and operated through the cooperation of six missionary organizations: Christian Reformed World Missions, Evangelical Covenant Church World Missions, OMS International, SEND International, The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM), and WorldVenture. Representatives from these organizations make up the board of directors.

13. What is the language of instruction?
All classes are taught in English.
