Varsity boys' basketball team loses against ASIJ

The varsity boys' basketball team wrapped up league play on Saturday at home against ASIJt. Unfortunately, the Knights lost 60-56 after battling back and forth with the Mustangs all game.

A couple of jump shots rimmed in and out for CAJ in the final minute, which unfortunately doomed the Knights. The final shot would have tied the game for the Knights, but it fell off and ASIJ grabbed the rebound and sealed the victory with a free throw at the other end.

"There were moments when ASIJ went on a run, and we were able to stop those runs and get back into the game," coach Steve Hall said. "That happened a few times. I'm really proud of the guys being able to fight back and give themselves a chance to tie the game at the end."

Hall also said he was happy with the team's shot making in the second half, especially from Koji and Ty, and the hustle and all-around play from Enosh.

The game had significant implications for the Kanto Plains standings. CAJ entered the game with the opportunity to earn a three-way tie for the league championship with ASIJ and St. Mary's. However, the loss means CAJ will finish third place in Kanto Plains.

"Heading into this season, I wasn't expecting us to have the opportunity to compete for a league championship," Hall said. "So that does make this loss all the more painful, since you don't get these chances often. For the team to be just one win away from a league championship is great, but it does make it harder to swallow when we were that close."

In the contest, the Knights were led in scoring by Koji (21 points), Enosh (17 points) and Ty (16 points).

The Knights finished league play with nine wins and three losses against Kanto Plains teams.
