Varsity boys' basketball falls 49-46 to St. Mary's

The varsity boys' basketball team narrowly lost by a score of 49-46 to St. Mary's on Thursday night. The Knights now have a 3-7 record in Kanto Plains play this season.

Coach Steve Hall said CAJ played from behind for the whole game, but that the team was always able to stay pretty close. St. Mary's held a nine-point lead at halftime, but the Knights responded by gradually closing the gap and eventually tying the game early in the fourth quarter. St. Mary's then closed the game with some crucial baskets down the stretch to secure its win.

Hall said the Titans were able to dictate the pace of the game well, especially in the first half. While the Knights prefer a quicker tempo, St. Mary's likes to take its time on offense to work for high-quality shots.

In the second half, however, CAJ was able to increase the tempo of the game a little bit.

"We sped up the game in the second half by pressing at three-quarter court and half-court," Hall said. "We forced some turnovers and that allowed us to get back in the game. The second half's pace was more to our liking."

The Knights were led in points by Enosh (12), Koji (10) and Kyle and Stephen (eight each)

CAJ will conclude league play with a home game against Yokota next Friday evening.
