Varsity girls' basketball survived a bit of a scare from St. Maur on Saturday to remain undefeated with a 3-0 record. The Knights won the contest 54-39 after St. Maur shrunk CAJ's lead to only seven points midway through the fourth quarter.

CAJ stayed in control for most of the game. A lot of it was due to the Knights' passing, especially in transition. The varsity used a press defense for a good portion of the game and finished off many good defensive plays with layups going the opposite direction.

"Today we had the chance to practice two of our presses for the first time in a game, and they worked very effectively," coach Craig Eby said. "We recovered well and they didn't really hurt us at the other end."

A key factor in the victory was a big performance from Anna, who had 28 points and seven rebounds.

"The girls did a really good job of feeding her on the fast break," Eby added. "And not just with long passes, but also coming down and dumping the ball off to her on a 2-on-1 or 3-on-1."

CAJ also had strong performances from Rachel (10 points), Kachel (two points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals) and HyeonSeo (two points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals).

Like the JV girls, the varsity will aim to move to 4-0 next Friday at ASIJ.
