HS boys' cross country defeats YIS 24-37

The high school boys' cross country team started its season on Saturday by defeating YIS by a score of 24-37 in a hot, humid meet at Tama Hills.

In a small field of runners with only CAJ and YIS competing for the high school boys, Shawn placed second overall out of 26 runners with a time of 17:37.5 on the 4.4-kilometer course. The Knights' top five was completed by Ken (11th grade) (17:49.1), William (18:04.1), Hikaru (18:24.8) and Ty (18:27.3). Full results from the meet are available

Like the high school girls, the boys had a few runners unable to run at Saturday's meet. However, the Knights showed strong depth, with its top eight runners finishing within 82 seconds of each other.

Head coach Nate Rudd was very happy to see said depth from the team.

"One of the nicest things to see was the tight group of six guys in between the first and second miles," Rudd said. "They kept it going pretty well throughout the race. They stuck together in the first mile and they still kind of held it together in the second mile before spreading out a bit. It's nice to see that group of runners together. I'm looking forward to seeing where they go from here and how they pull each other along."

The Knights will run the same course again at Tama Hills next Saturday.
