Varsity girls' basketball pulls away to beat Seisen 42-27

The varsity girls' basketball team finished off the sweep of Seisen on Saturday by defeating the Phoenix by a score of 42-27. Rachel (14 points), Anna (13 points), Mitsuki (seven points), Kachel (nine rebounds) and Jessica (six rebounds) led the CAJ attack in the team's first game of the season.

The Knights were able to pull away with excellent performances in the second and third quarters after leading only 9-6 following the first quarter. Seisen won the fourth quarter 9-2, but CAJ's lead was wide enough to withstand the Phoenix's charge.

"Early on, they started pressing us and we made a few mistakes," coach Craig Eby said. "But then we settled down and didn't have any trouble after that, so they'll pulled their press off. We didn't see it at all again until the fourth quarter."

The Knights shot well from the perimeter, especially the three main scorers: Rachel, Anna and Mitsuki. Eby also commented that CAJ's rebounding was good. He added that the Knights need to work on slowing the game down when they have a fourth-quarter lead, and working the ball inside when the outside shots aren't falling, which was the case in the fourth quarter.

CAJ's next game is at ISSH on Thursday.
