JV girls' basketball beats ASIJ 26-22

The JV girls' basketball team had an inspiring performance at CAJ on Thursday against the favored ASIJ Mustangs. The Knights won 26-22 in a game that was tight all the way through.

CAJ entered the game with just seven players available, and even one of them (Raven) was dealing with shin splints and had to take frequent rests. The Mustangs, meanwhile, had 12 different players who entered the game and had a much taller roster.

However, the Knights hit the rebounds hard and dominated their bigger opponents with sheer effort.

Aasritha and Jessica finished the game with 14 rebounds each and did a great job keeping the Mustangs from loose balls. Jessica also led the scoring with seven points, while Raven and Nana had six points apiece.

"When I heard that ASIJ was a really strong team, I didn't want that to bring me or the team down," Aasritha said. "I kind of avoided that statement going into the game and thought of them just as another team we were going to play."

Coach Jared Johnson thought it was easily the best game the team has played all season.

"This game was an example of how important energy and effort are in basketball," Johnson said. "Despite our small numbers, it seemed like we were the first ones to get almost every loose ball and rebound. I was really impressed by the spirit of every member of the team."

The Knights are now 7-4 in Kanto League play. Their next game will be against Yokota at CAJ next Thursday.
