Varsity girls' basketball advances to semifinals on Day 2 of Far East Tournament

The varsity girls' basketball team continued its strong play at the Far East Tournament in Okinawa on Friday. The Knights beat Yokota 26-22 to finish pool play with a 4-0 record and then beat Edgren 46-19 in the tournament quarterfinals.

CAJ struggled on offense against Yokota, but the team played strong enough defense and made some free throws well at the end of the game to secure the win.

"We still played pretty well as a team [against Yokota]," coach Craig Eby said. "However, in this game, there were times when we had trouble with their press because we weren't looking up to see people open down the court."

Rachel had 11 points and Anna had 10 points against Yokota.

The Knights had a more comfortable win against Edgren in the evening. Eby said the team's passing really stood out in this game both on the fast break and in half-court settings.

"We were also hitting a lot of shots from different places," Eby said. "Anna had some makes and several shots from outside, including a three-pointer."

Against Edgren, Anna had 17 points and Rachel had 15 points. Mari had five points and seven rebounds and Jessica also had seven rebounds.

The Knights will play Daegu in the tournament semifinals at 9 a.m. and then either play in the championship or for third place in the afternoon.
