HS wrestling competes in Day 1 of Far East Tournament

The high school wrestling team completed the first day of its Far East Tournament at Kinnick on Thursday. The Knights had six wrestlers combine for a total of five match wins.

Jordan (108 pounds) won both of his matches to earn himself a spot in the championship on Friday. Joe (115) is in the running for third place after winning one of his two matches on Thursday. Peter (122) and Leo (141) both won one match apiece, but they lost in the consolation round afterward and are now eliminated.

Coach Morris Yaegashi commented that getting a win from Peter in the team's first match of the day was a nice tone-setter. Jordan took some time to warm up, but he still took care of business and Yaegashi thinks he should be able to finish the individual tournament strong if he stays calm and composed for his final match.

Yaegashi added that Tai (135) also had a nice match in one of his losses on Thursday, taking down his opponent at one point. Yaegashi said it was Tai's best match of his wrestling career. He also noted how great it was for Leo, a first-year wrestler, to win a match at a big event like Far East.
