Varsity girls' basketball loses 36-21 to Yokota

The varsity girls' basketball team held its Senior Night on Thursday at CAJ against Yokota. The Panthers entered the game with an 11-0 record in Kanto league play.

Unfortunately, the Knights weren't able to overcome a slow offensive start and ended up losing 36-21. Yokota flustered CAJ with a full-court press in the first half and took a 21-4 lead into the halftime break.

The Knights, however, swung the momentum in the second half with a trapping defense and smarter offense. CAJ won the second half 17-15 despite the fact that Yokota kept in its starters in basically the whole game.

In the game, Julia had five points and 11 rebound, Kachel had four points and six rebounds, Erika had four points and seven steals and Angela had four points and three rebounds.

Angela said the Knights need to be better mentally prepared at the start of the game so opponents can't get quick leads on them.

"We need to go into the game wanting to make good passes and fast passes," Angela said. "We need to stay calm on offense but also cause chaos [on defense]."

Thursday night's loss pushed the varsity's league record to 9-4 and its overall record to 10-8. The Knights leave for their week-long Far East Tournament in Iwakuni on Sunday.
