Boys' tennis defeats Zama 5-0

The boys' tennis team responded from a loss to ASIJ on Wednesday to defeat Zama 5-0 on Saturday. The Knights only had to contest four of the five matches, since Zama did not have a 3rd singles player.

Because of the rain in the morning, the matches took on a different format to shorten the day of competition. Each match was just one set where one player had to win eight games. Normally, the matches are the first to win two sets, but the set length is just the first to win six games.

Kaito took the 1st singles match by a score of 8-1 and Kitt won his 2nd singles match 8-0.

"They played well," head coach Ushio Sawada said. "Kaito lost one game, but after he lost the game, he kind of came back to life and finished it off. Kitt was aggressive. He wasn't too aggressive last year, but it was good today to see him, even if the ball wasn't coming that fast, he was hitting it back really hard and he was aggressive. That was good to see."

For the doubles, Eugene and Joe defeated their opponent 8-0 in the 1st doubles spot and Takumi and Shuntaro won 8-3 in 2nd doubles.

The boys' next match will be at St. Mary's next Wednesday to make up a match scheduled for September 15.
