HS boys' cross country defeats YIS 20-40

The high school boys' cross country team had a solid day of performances on a very rainy day at Tama Hills on Saturday, beating YIS 20-40 to make its record an even 1-1.

CAJ was led by Jordan (16:09.7, 5th place out of 66 runners), Hayato (16:38.9, 11th), Stephen (17:36.4, 23rd), Koh-William (17:51.6, 26th) and Go (18:00.3, 34th). Six of the Knights' 10 runners registered personal record times on the 4.4-kilometer course, and all 10 runners had season bests. Full results from the meet are available

For the middle school, GyungWon continued to fare well as the only CAJ runner. He had a personal record of 15:32.7 on the 3.3-kilometer course, placing 38th out of 139 runners.

Coach Nate Rudd gave his thoughts on the Knights' performance as an entire team:

"Even with all the rain, we performed very well," Rudd said. "The kids pushed their hardest and got to where they were expecting to get, and some surpassed [that]. I think a lot of the kids thought, 'yes, I finally had the race I wanted to have,' so that was exciting to see."

Rudd added that his team's hard work in practice is starting to show in the race setting.

"I think we are getting stronger in the distance [side of things]," he said. "I think we want to keep working on general endurance, and I think we’ll probably start switching to sprinting a little more in the future. We do still want to work on hills and getting them stronger, as well."

CAJ's next meet will again be at Tama Hills next Saturday.
