HS boys' cross country wins against KIST and St. Mary's

The high school boys’ cross country team earned two wins and no losses at Tama Hills on Saturday. The Knights defeated KIST 15-50 and initially tied St. Mary’s 28-28 before ultimately winning on a tiebreaker. The Knights' season record is now 5-1.

On the 4.4-kilometer course, CAJ was led by Hayato, who finished 11th out of 84 runners with a time of 16:36.4. Finishing out the Knights’ top five were William (17:02.9, 16th), Shawn (17:22.1, 22nd), Ken (17:36.1, 26th) and Dominic (17:55.9, 30th). The tiebreaker for CAJ against St. Mary's was Go (17:57.3, 31st) being the faster No. 6 runner between the two teams.

Full results from the meet are available here.

Beating St. Mary's in extremely tight fashion was the big highlight from the meet, coach Nate Rudd said. Rudd pointed to Dominic and Go making a move to surge ahead of St. Mary's No. 5 runner with about 400 meters to go as a very key point of the race.

"While the times don't show it, the guys worked really hard to pull out the narrow victory against St. Mary's," coach Nate Rudd said. "Everybody contributed, everybody's place mattered and everybody did their best to make the win possible."

The Knights will run next Thursday afternoon at the Tama Hills lower course.
