Cross country freshmen compete in mid-week meet at Tama Hills

With the majority of the team participating in School Without Walls activities, CAJ's three freshmen cross country runners competed on Thursday at Tama Hills.

Ken placed 37th out of 76 high school boy runners with a time of 19:39.8. Ty was 47th with a 20:28.9. On the girls' side, Charis ran 25:38.2 and placed 43rd out of 57 runners. The Knights did not compete against any other teams and ran on the 5-kilometer lower course, as opposed to the usual 4.4-kilometer upper course.

Coach Nate Rudd gave the following comments on the team's Thursday performance:

"The freshmen did a great job while trying out a new course today at Tama. Ken ran a great race, performing very well. He has been improving consistently over the season. Charis, running her first 5k, saved too much and ran a very fast finishing sprint. Ty had a bad day but is looking forward to running here next week.

All gained valuable knowledge in running at the 5k distance. Charis is looking forward to showing the girls this course next week and passing on some insights in order to help the girls qualify for Far East next week. She thinks she can run a 24:30, and if some of the other girls can break 24, they have a chance. They will all have to have a good day. We all need to focus on our speed now in the season."

CAJ's entire cross country team will run this 5k course next Saturday, October 13.
