HS girls' basketball wins two games against St. Maur

The high school girls' basketball teams won two games on Saturday against St. Maur. Varsity won 61-43 and JV won 35-17.

On Senior Day, the Knights' varsity started its five seniors (Mitsuki, HyeonSeo, Rachel, Nana and Yeonjoo) and was able to spread playing time around evenly throughout the game. CAJ took a 31-15 lead at halftime before some hot shooting from St. Maur in the third and early fourth quarters closed the gap.

"St. Maur brought our lead down to eight points, but we started to hit our outside shots again and really improved our passing," coach Craig Eby said. "I was happy that everyone on our team scored, had at least one rebound and was a positive in our defensive plus-minus statistic."

Some key contributions for the Knights came from Anna (16 points, five rebounds, three assists), Sora (10 points, three assists), Jessica (nine points, four assists), Mari (six points, 15 rebounds), HyeonSeon (six points, five rebounds) and Marikah (five points, seven rebounds).

JV got off to a fast start against the Cougars, taking a 12-0 lead on the strength of some good passing and shooting. The Knights were able to maintain the lead and keep some distance throughout the remainder of the game.

"This was definitely our most under-control game on offense this season," coach Jared Johnson said. "Our shooting cooled off in the second half, but we made up for it by improving our rebounding and keeping up our defensive intensity."

Marikah had a big game of 17 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Other key statistical performances came from Sora (12 points, three steals), Charis (seven rebounds), Devika (seven rebounds) and Kiera (six rebounds).

Varsity's overall season record is now 15-4, and its league record is 9-2. JV finished 5-5 with a record of 3-3 in official games. JV's season is now done, but varsity will play next at home against Zama on Tuesday.
