School Improvement Report, 2011-2012, Preface

Completion of the 2011-2012 School Improvement Report has resulted in:

• Increased stakeholder understanding of and focus on CAJ’s mission, understanding of what’s involved in achieving our mission, and collaboration.
• The development of our School Improvement Plan, 2012-2013.

We modified the WASC process in 3 WASC-approved ways:

• We used our school improvement process.
• Our focus groups focused on CAJ’s 6 ends (rather than WASC’s 4 categories).
• We renamed WASC criteria for report titles.

We used best practice to develop our report:

• Stakeholders were involved through surveys, in reviewing the student objectives (students, staff), in developing the progress report (staff), in developing focus group reports (staff), and in developing the improvement plan (staff, parents).
• We reviewed our student objectives. (Clarification of the mission is the province of our Board of Directors.)
• Focus groups assessed how we carry out our mission.
• The Advisory Council used focus group reports to draft the School Improvement Plan, 2012-2013.
• CAJ will use its school improvement process to monitor the accomplishment of the School Improvement Plan, 2012-2013.

We developed the 2011-2012 School Improvement Report in the fall of 2011:

• August-September: Staff reviewed the school profile and developed the Profile Analysis, 2011-2012. Staff and students reviewed the student objectives. We completed our 2011 Progress Report.
• August – November: Focus groups worked on reports.
• November-December: The Advisory Council used focus group reports to draft the School Improvement Plan, 2012-2013. The Advisory Council worked to get consensus on the plan, and then finalized the plan.
