Admission Process

出願手続きの流れ

Admission Process[edit]

  1. Submit completed documentation.
    • Please work to get the completed online application and other documentation submitted as soon as possible. We ask that applicants take primary responsibility for ensuring materials have reached CAJ. Please let us know if you are having difficulty securing any of the required documents.
    • Families where neither of the parents or guardians has the English language ability to communicate with the school in English will be asked to submit their plan for communicating with CAJ and supporting their student: see Communicating with CAJ in English
  2. Documents will be reviewed
    • If documentation indicates ineligibility, parents will be notified as soon as a denial decision has been made.
    • If documentation indicates potential eligibility, the administration will make arrangements for testing and/or an interview as needed.
  3. Testing
    • If standardized test documentation is not available for third graders and above, the applicant may be asked to take a standardized test.
    • All Kindergarten and first grade applicants are given a readiness test.
    • English language testing may be required of non-native speakers of English at any grade level.
    • Arrangements for testing of students from outside of the Tokyo area can be made with the admissions team.
    • Those needing testing may need to come to campus one day for testing and another time for the interview.
  4. Interview
    • The interview includes both the parents and the student. For students and families outside of the Tokyo area, Skype or other digital option may be available. Please consult with the admissions team.
  5. Decision
    • Admission decisions are based on a variety of factors including available class space, English language ability, special needs, and the overall composition of that class.
    • We will communicate with you in writing (email and postal mail) regarding admission decisions. We try to expedite admission decisions, and in most cases families are notified within 1-2 weeks of the testing and interview.
    • Following admission, families will be directed on next steps including:
      • payment details
      • summer school enrollment (or alternative) for EAL students and those from non-Christian homes
      • how to indicate they have read the student handbooks
      • how to receive a Bible in English or Japanese
